First maternity photography shoot in Hyderabad

Updated: Sep 14, 2018

Take a look at some of the planning and behind the scenes of a maternity photo shoot in a gated community in Hyderabad. The set up was simple; the focus was more on the mom-to-be than the gear used.

Planning

It was the first #maternity photography session for the photographer (me) and the model (my lovely wife — Safia) :) It was just a day before her due date, and we did not have any time to hunt of location or to worry much about the gear I was going to use.

We reside in a relatively well known upcoming gated community in #Hyderabad, and there is a good number of residents that are in some form of "home business." Coincidentally just a day before we were waiting to welcome our second child (our elder daughter's name is Amayra, and she is 3) there was someone who required a model to do some "free" makeup to promote their business.

Up until this time, we did not want to do the #maternity photoshoot because we were too occupied with the exciting news of our second child (boy or girl, boy or girl :). Safia volunteered for the make-up session and came back after 1-2 hours, looking lovely!.

It was a weekend, and I was chilling around, she came back and said — "chal chal mere photos le, I am all ready". I smiled at her and told her to go and put on a gown. I must say she opted for the perfect choice for the shoot and the crown complimented well.

Location

As far as location was concerned, we did the shoot mostly in the garden of our gated apartment and took some shots indoors. At this stage of #pregnancy, I did not want to stress Safia a lot by changing costumes or setting up a complicated indoor #studio with #strobes. I wanted to do a complete indoor shoot considering Safia would have to walk to go outdoors. However, she was alright.

Simplicity is the key

Most of the images captured during this shoot were using natural light. I use a relatively high-end #DSLR camera and edit my pictures using industry standard software. I work alone and do not have a team to assist me for now. It helps me in coordinating the project and offering affordable services. My clients like it as well as there is a single point of contact and they do not have to worry about handling too many people. I rely on my clients to assist me during the shoot, for example, I could request someone to hold a flash for me or help me pose someone.
